In 1985, Australia experienced a time of consolidation and some equipment updating. No large new installations were built, but new equipment continues to be purchased as replacement. A number of transmitters were replaced with audio stereo-capable units. New translators have been installed in regional areas, an a new set is also being installed to tie into the Sydney stations. A large number of integral camera/recorders are being used both for news and production. Film for news gathering is almost nonexistent.
