High-Quality Magneto-Optic Disk Video Recording
An erasable videodisk recorder has been developed using magneto-optic disks, and the writing, reading, and erasing of video signals has been demonstrated. In this experimental recorder, a bit rate of more than 100 Mbits/sec was achieved for recording and reading out digital video signals in real time. Video signals coded using a 3:1:0 component coding system, including an error-correction code and pulse-code modulated audio signals, were divided into four channels, and two channel signals were recorded on each of two one-sided disks. A recording time of 10 min and an access time of less than 0.5 sec were obtained. Two possible applications — a transmission memory for short programs and a memory for producing animation and computer graphics — are described.
