HD-PRO™: A New Global High-Definition Video Production Format

Richard J. Iredale

This article introduces a production format that complements all known transmission formats. In addition, the proposed new production format, called HD-PRO, offers extremely high spatial resolution, making it suitable for archival masters and post-production image manipulation. HD-PRO is best regarded as an extension of the recently announced SMPTE 240M standard (often referred to as the 1125/60 format). A great deal of creative work has gone into the establishment of 240M, and HD-PRO should be viewed as a complement to that format, with each format designed to suit a different subset of applications.
