A 1/2 Inch Cassette HDTV VTR

Shigeo Kizu, Naoki Endo, Keisuke Ogi

An HDTV base band video signal and four digital audio signals can be recorded more than 63 minutes onto a newly introduced 1/2 inch MP tape cassette, which is slightly larger than a conventional VHS cassette. — Digital signal processing techniques such as time compression, time expansion, digital filtering and signal shuffling are fully introduced in order to record a large amount of information onto the small cassette tape efficiently. — A newly developed pre-amp IC, pre-amps within the rotating drum system and automatic equalization for the video system, and a new error detection strategy for the PCM audio system have been introduced to meet the demand for sufficient performance. — Many operating functions have been considered for this VTR in order to apply it not only for industrial use but also for professional use.
