35mm—The Next 100 Years—3 or 4 PERF, 24 or 30 FPS an Available Solution for the Dilemma

Don McLendon, Pat Coakley, Bob Jones, Ken McLendon, Mike Casper

Disclosed is a patented sprocket assembly which allows 35mm projectors, or other film handling devices, to readily convert to accomodate either a 4-perf, or 3-perf pulldown 2mode. After an initial, fairly inexpensive modification to virtually any projector currently in use, including production interlock units, the changeover is simple, quick, and exact, whether from 4 to 3-perf mode, or vice-versa. Applications of the inclusion of a frequency synthesizer, allowing speed variances of 24 fps to 30 fps, as an immediate option, are also demonstrated. This combination could prove to be extremely useful, presently for television and for future proposed HDTV systems applications.
