Professional Realtime Video over IP Interoperability—A Future Hope?

M.J.C. Firth

IP networks are used with ever growing popularity for carrying many forms of data, including traffic that used to be considered unsuitable for such networks. Possibly one of the most difficult traffic types is realtime professional video, as this requires very high bandwidths, has stringent delay requirements, and is not tolerant to errors. This paper considers the likelihood that IP networks will be able to support this traffic, and looks at the possibility of a standard evolving that will allow solutions from different manufacturers to interoperate seamlessly.
