Properties and Statistics of Conversions between R'G'B' and Y'CbCr Color Spaces

Victor J. Duvanenko

Y'CbCr color space has permeated every aspect of the video industry. It is used by most compression standards, such as JPEG and MPEG, as well as for transmission, storage, and processing. Conversions between Y'CbCr and R'G'B' color spaces are defined by several industry standards. Properties and statistics of these conversions are studied. Single- and multiple-generations of conversions are compared, considering HDTV and SDTV.
