Photographing a War: World War II
This paper covers the World War II years of 1942 to 1945. Television did not exist as a medium; it slowly emerged after the war. Videotape was not even invented until 1956. But film was state-of-the-art as a communication medium in those years. Film and photography were used extensively by the military for a wide range of uses. One use is credited with influencing the outcome of the war. This paper explores still and motion picture photography by the different military branches with emphasis on the Army's use in training and combat.
