Toward Better Chroma Subsampling: Recipient of the 2007 SMPTE Student Paper Award

Chroma subsampling is a lossy process often compounded by concatenation of dissimilar techniques. This paper surveys common subsampling applications providing examples of the advantages and disadvantages of various approaches. It also outlines a novel chroma upsampling technique that minimizes erroneous out-of-gamut colors.
