Producing Quality 3-D Films in the Digital Intermediate Process: Filmmaking

Steve Schklair

In the past, cinematography of live-action subjects for the creation of stereoscopic movies was more of a black art than science. Even at its best, it was far from the perfection of the images achievable today. This “image perfection” is necessary to create a 3-D movie that is comfortable to view and in which the “3-Dness” is not a distraction to the viewer. The advent of digital technology for the production and post-production of motion pictures has enabled the rebirth of stereoscopic filmmaking as it has enabled solutions to all of the imperfections of the past.
