Digital Dailies in the 21st Century
With the advent of digital and file-based cameras, the definition of what defines dailies is quite broad and the expectations for what dailies should provide a production varies even more based on the budget, on who is viewing what, and on who is doing what with this material. Dailies provide one value for the director of photography and hair and make-up team and another value for the director and producers. This paper provides an overview of these different definitions of dailies and details their associated workflows. Focus will start with on-set dailies, dailies on DVD, and dailies distributed to remote locations. Productions covered range from film production to using HD file-based cameras such as Panasonic P2 and RED.
