Obituaries
John Bowring, ASC, a supportive and active member of the SMPTE Australia Section, passed away suddenly on 16 April 2011, in Hong Kong, on his return home from NAB 2011 in Las Vegas. A supportive and active member of the Australia Section, Bowring won more than 30 awards for his cinematography. Early in his career he shot and edited TV comedy programs including the Paul Hogan Show, Ernie Sigley, Graham Kennedy, and Don Lane. He was accredited by ACS by the Australian Cinematographers Society in 1990 and inducted into the ASC's Cinematographer's Hall of Fame in 2005; he was also a member of the BKSTS. Bowring was owner of Lemac Film and Digital in Australia before his passing. He is survived by his wife Sue and their children, Jack and Kate.
