Review: Stereoscopic Moving Images

Lenny Lipton

By the end of June 2011, in the months preceding the release of Transformers: Dark Side of the Moon, the press was questioning the viability of both 3D movies and TV. A number of articles pointed out that along with the growth of 3D theater installations, possibly at 15,000 screens in North America, the percentage of revenue coming from the stereoscopic versions of features had dropped. In the rest of the world the percentage of box office revenue for 3D was better but there was the implication that these regions will suffer the same declines as the novelty wears off.
