SMPTE Showing Progress [Message from the Executive Director]
For several years now, the September issue of the SMPTE Motion Imaging Journal has been known as the “Progress Report” issue. Once per year, the Journal reports on the progress of the many technical committees within SMPTE's Standards Community. And there is a lot of good progress to report as you will learn. If you read only one issue of this journal each year (and I hope you don't), this is the issue. It provides details on the activities of the standards committees and, once again, shows the leadership that SMPTE provides to the industry. Hans Hoffmann, SMPTE's Engineering Vice President, restructured the standards committees early in 2011 to better meet the needs of the industry. As such, SMPTE is focused on addressing the complex challenges that confront us as we continue the migration from analog to full digital workflows and processes. Read more about this in Hoffmann's introduction to the SMPTE Technology Committee reports on page 28. I hope this issue provides you with useful information as well as the notion that your Society continues to work at solving industry problems through its quality standards processes.
