SMPTE's Media Standards for Broadcasters [Report from the Standards Vice President]
When looking at the changes in the media landscape, one can observe that for broadcasters, news and sports are probably the first forms of content, most affected by changing consumption patterns. Media consumption patterns depend on many factors: younger audiences are likely to consume media on their computers, second screens, and mobile devices, while with increasing age, the big screen in the living room tends to be used more, for longer duration programs. Broadcasters face the challenge of serving the needs of all the respective audiences. Competition with the print media industry, social media platforms, and the need to increase production efficiency is forcing broadcasters to drastically change the way in which their content is produced. Broadcasters' program offers must now include text, audio, and images, with high technical quality, as well as high editorial and journalistic standards, to reach the largest possible audience.
