More, Better, Faster Pixels

Pete Putman

To paraphrase the ancient Chinese proverb, we are either cursed or blessed by living in interesting times. The traditional concept of “television” is being retired, and video content is now delivered simultaneously to smaller screens (tablets and phones) and larger ones (super-sized LCDs as large as 90 diagonal inches). In the meantime, a combination of excess LCD factory capacity and decreasing worldwide consumer demand has turned the conventional flat screen HDTV into a bargain-priced commodity and a source of unending red ink and misery for some TV manufacturers.
