FIMS: The Evolution of Workflows Calls for Solutions

Giorgio Dimino, Loic Barbou, Roman Mackiewicz, Richard Cartwright, Brad Gilmer, John Footen, Jean-Pierre Evain

The current media landscape shows a constant acceleration in the rate of change of technologies for media consumption and production, with increasing user expectations and proliferation of delivery platforms and formats. Business models need to be easily adaptable to sustain the change and support content creativity and technical innovation, such as a shift from file-based to stream-based workflows. Integrated supply chain processes must be put in place for generating and handling large quantities of video and audio in different formats to suit the requirements of different regulatory environments, regional and cultural audiences, and distribution platforms. Delivering on promises of interoperability, scalability, and agility, service-oriented architectures can be applied to media, as standardized by the AMWA-EBU FIMS project.
