Introduction to “Video over IP” Issue

Thomas Edwards

Computer networking is one of the most important technologies in the media world today. Not only is Internet-delivered content increasing to end users, but also file-based workflows of content producers and distributors now depend on efficient computer networking inside the broadcast plant to move large files from device to device. Ethernet switching fabrics of 1 Gbit/sec and increasingly 10 Gbits/sec speeds are now an everyday part of media company workflows, and are as critical a tool as almost any other devices in the plant.
