The Advanced Television Systems Committee (ATSC) is an international, nonprofit organization developing voluntary standards for digital television (DTV). The ATSC member organizations represent the broadcast, broadcast equipment, motion picture, consumer electronics, computer, cable, satellite, and semiconductor industries. ATSC is focused on the development of standards for terrestrial broadcast and hybrid broadcast/broadband television. This work includes both near-term, backward-compatible projects and long-term, nonbackward-compatible projects. SMPTE is a founding member of ATSC, which this year observes its 33th year of operation.
