Section Meetings

On 9 May, New York City College of Technology, also known as City Tech, hosted its first-ever SMPTE Student Chapter Meet-up at its campus in Downtown Brooklyn. The 3-hr event brought together 50 attendees from industry professions and video production studies offered across the City University of New York colleges to discuss upcoming broadcast technologies. Special guest speakers included cinematographer Mark Raker, Prof. John Acosta of Kingsborough Community College who is also a seasoned editor, and ABC post-production engineer, Bruce Follmer, Past Chair of the NY Section. The topics covered ranged from choices in shooting formats, interoperable master formats (IMFs), and Next-Gen TV. The meeting, organized by enthusiastic members of the Ent Video Club, included young people enrolled in City Tech’s Entertainment Technology Department. City Tech students along with several others from Queens College, Bronx Community College, and Kingsborough Community College packed the meeting hall to engage in a meet-and-greet while enjoying snacks and soft drinks, donated by the local Trader Joe’s and pizza courtesy of the NY Section.
