Video Luminance Levels for Human Skin Tones in Hybrid Log-Gamma Video

This paper presents current work undertaken by the British Broadcasting Corp. (BBC) to look at the representation of human skin tones in International Telecommunication Union-Radiocommunication (ITU-R) Recommendation BT.2100 high dynamic range video systems. Specifically, the author presents luma values for a range of skin tones, categorized by the Fitzpatrick scale, which can be used as a lineup guide by cameramen, racks/shader operators, and colorists. The effect of makeup is also covered.
