The April 2019 obituary for Dr. Raymond Fielding failed to mention one of his most significant efforts on behalf of SMPTE. In 1967, Dr. Fielding edited A Technological History of Motion Pictures and Television: An Anthology From the Pages of the Journal of the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers, which was published by the University of California Press. An anthology of papers previously published in the Journal, it was described by one reviewer as a “classic text, which appears on virtually every film book reading list” and by another reviewer as a book that was “indispensable to every serious student of the media of mass communication.”
