Achieving Interoperability in NMOS-Based IP Control Systems
Interoperability between different vendors’ Internet Protocol (IP)-based solutions is absolutely vital to ensure smooth operation in professional audiovisual (AV) media facilities. Focusing on the control plane, this article describes some of the ways in which interoperability can be achieved including the use of open, freely available specifications, powerful and free-to-use automated testing tools, open-source software, and interoperability events. For vendors, all of these resources can play a valuable role during development to ensure the specifications are correctly implemented. For end users and systems integrators, using these testing tools before or as part of the selection of vendor solutions ensures unexpected issues are avoided during integration.
