SMPTE Rapid Industry Solutions: 2024 Progress Report: On-Set Virtual Production (OSVP) and Open Services Alliance (OSA)

In 2024, the SMPTE Rapid Industry Solutions (RIS) initiative has made significant strides across both the On-Set Virtual Production (OSVP) and Open Services Alliance (OSA) programs, driving innovation in media technology and setting the stage for future advancements. OSVP has seen remarkable progress in areas like Camera and Lens Metadata, Camera Tracking, Color Management, and Education working groups, focusing on interoperability and real-time workflows. Simultaneously, OSA has tackled challenges in media system standardization and content distribution with Catena and Best Practices and Live Stream Distribution committees. This progress report highlights the collective efforts to foster collaboration, develop best practices, and serve as a basis for standards, ensuring SMPTE's continued leadership in virtual production technologies or media systems now hosted on cloud, multicloud, and on-prem platforms.
