Implementation of NMOS AMWA Open Specifications for Discovery, Registration, and Management Connections of Digital Cinemas
A combination of various technologies comprises what is known as Digital Cinema. Despite the development of several applied digital technologies, Digital Cinemas continue to operate as standalone entities, with limited connectivity to external networks such as the internet. In recent years, however, the audiovisual world has been rapidly moving towards IP technologies. Data transmission and device management technologies have been integrated into nearly all segments of the audiovisual industry, including television broadcasting, media content production, online video services, and professional audiovisual (Pro AV) solutions for concerts, events, conferences, installations, and more. Even though different protocols are used in different media industry segments, most solutions today increasingly rely on Networked Media Open Specifications (NMOS) developed by the Advanced Media Workflow Association (AMWA) community for device management. The implementation of open AMWA NMOS specifications in the cinema industry can become the basis for the introduction of the Digital Cinema 2.0 concept as the next generation of Digital Cinema.
