2025 is a year of change in the TV business. Streaming is now consumers' top choice for watching TV, by preferred video source, time spent viewing, and other common measures. According to the Pew Research Center, 83% of Americans watch streaming services, and for 55% of Americans, streaming is their only source. 28% of Americans “double dip,” both subscribing to cable or satellite and watching streaming services. Time spent viewing these sources followed a similar pattern. This year, Nielsen reported, “Streaming reached a historic milestone in May as its share of total television usage outpaced the combined share of broadcast and cable for the first time.”
